Bridal Show Recovery

This past Sunday was the bridal show at the Expo Center and it was CRAZY! So much going on at the show itself, and we talked to a lot of brides and grooms--so many that my throat is still sore! This was my first time at the Expo Center, and it was definitely a different experience--the aisles were much wider, which is nice, but there were also so many more vendors that I could not even see them all. I'm guessing a lot of the brides had the same problem!

As usual, my dates are filling up pretty quickly now, so if I have talked to you about your date and you are still interested, please contact me soon!

A Lifetime Of Portraits

I worked out the details of the 1/2 price portraits for my wedding couples. I am really excited about the whole thing--I think it is going to be a great project for me and something so special for the couples. So the deal will be that all my wedding couples will receive 1/2 price portrait sessions, up to one per year. After 4 sessions, they will get a complimentary DVD slide show set to music, featuring their images. I'm thinking that it will probably be engagement, then wedding, maternity then baby/family photos, but the possibilities are really wide open. It could be a new dog, child's birthday party, holiday photos, who knows! That is one of the things I really like about this, besides the progression of life captured in pictures--it is so flexible that people can make what they want of it.
This is the postcard I had made to explain the program. I'll have them at the Bridal Show this Sunday, so stop by booth 278 and talk to us about it!

Annie, My Hero

I've been meaning to write about this for awhile, but have been bogged down with appointments and the seemingly never-ending task of getting ready for the Bridal Show.
I finally made it to the Annie Leibowitz exhibit that was at the Corcoran. At first I was a little disappointed with it...there were lots of her own family photos, vacation photos etc, and only a few of the portraits that have made her famous. On the way out of the exhibit, there was a video that I caught a bit of...she was talking about how she grew up taking family photos and that her mother was a photo fanatic and very into archiving the family through photography. I've been thinking about this for a few weeks now, and have totally changed my opnion about the show now. How cool is it that someone who started out taking family photos has become so iconic in popular photography? Her portraits are beautiful--really inspirational to me. And it was really interesting to see personal photos from such a well known photographer.
If you missed the exhibit, her book American Music is one of my faves.

Bridal Show A Go-Go

I will be at the Washington Bridal Showcase which is being held at the Dulles Expo Center on Jan 27. I've been all kinds of busy working on some new sample albums, new offers for '08, and all new business cards. Very exciting.
One of the new offers I am going to do this year is 1/2 price portrait sessions for life (or as long as I am in business) for all my wedding couples after their wedding. I really want to photograph more than just the wedding, so with this offer, I hope that more of my couples will come back for maternity, newborn and family portraits as their families grow. After 3-4 'life event' sittings, I am going to put together a DVD of images from all the sessions which will be a slide show set to music--cool, right? It is something I would personally love to have, so I'm hoping my couples will love it too.
It is about time for Project Runway--can you even stand the contestants this season? I love it. I will post more soon....
